Hospitality has two air problems and they arrive from opposite directions. Airing a room out for days is the usual answer to both off-gassing and odour. It is also the expensive one, and it does not actually remove formaldehyde — it just dilutes it while the window is open.
Refurbishments load a sealed room
New wardrobes, headboards, carpet and casegoods go in together, in a room designed to hold conditioned air. Formaldehyde levels climb and stay up for months while guests sleep in it.
Odour is a review problem
Smoke, damp and cooking smells show up in guest reviews faster than almost anything else. Masking with fragrance reads as a cover-up; the smell needs to go.
